Why I Took Up Photography

Life doesn’t always move in straight lines.

After a major change, the pace I was used to — running, pushing, always moving fast — suddenly wasn’t possible anymore.

I needed something different. Something slower. Something that would still get me outside with a purpose, and help me rebuild my confidence and independence.

Photography became that path.

Looking through a lens changed everything. The world felt calmer, clearer, and full of details I’d never noticed before. Beauty wasn’t just in dramatic landscapes or rare wildlife — it was in the everyday moments we usually rush past. Photography taught me to see again.

It helped me slow down, look closely, and appreciate the things we often take for granted. It gave me structure, purpose, and a new kind of independence. What began as a hobby became a way of seeing — and a way of moving forward.

What I Photograph

I enjoy photographing a wide range of subjects, including:

Wildlife
Landscapes
Architecture
People — both portraiture and movement

For me, photography is about capturing moments and memories rather than perfection. Many of my images are JPEGs straight out of the camera, though I’m currently learning ON1 Photo RAW 2026 to develop my post‑processing skills.

Where I Shoot

Living in Bedford, I mainly visit local places of interest, as well as RSPB and English Heritage sites. I enjoy exploring familiar locations and finding something new each time I return.

I’m not currently part of a photography group, but I’d be happy for like‑minded individuals to join me on photo walks or shoots. I’m always keen to learn new techniques and to share what I know.
